- Burnout

High standards. Hidden stress.

The slow build of burnout

Burnout sneaks up on you.

You don’t plan on burning out, but you can’t seem to slow down. In fact, slowing down feels almost impossible. You have a never-ending list of things on your to-do list, you have to take the kids to their after school activities, you have an important meeting coming up that you have to prep for, and you and your partner still need to plan that date night that you both have been talking about for weeks but can’t seem to find the time for.

And then slowly, everything feels too much. You notice yourself getting more irritable. All of a sudden, getting out of bed in the morning becomes more difficult. You become more forgetful, and you’re spread so thin that you don’t feel like you’re succeeding in any area of your life. You start becoming apathetic, resentful. You are completely and utterly exhausted.

This is burnout.

Who does burnout affect?

Nobody is immune to burnout.

While burnout can affect anyone, certain roles and responsibilities can increase the risk of chronic stress and exhaustion.

  • Person wearing glasses and a white shirt typing on a laptop beside a smartphone on a bed

  • Healthcare & Helping Professionals

High workloads, emotional demands, and the responsibility of supporting others can lead to chronic stress and exhaustion.

  • Two women sitting on a bed and enjoying tea together

  • Professionals & Business Owners

High expectations, competing responsibilities, and pressure to succeed can make it difficult to slow down and recharge.

  • Smiling woman working at a desk with a laptop and smartphone in a home office

  • Caregivers & Parents

Caregiving can be deeply rewarding, however, the ongoing demands of caring for others can leave little time or energy for your own needs.
